පේදුරුතුඩුව සහ වෙත්තලකෙණි ප්‍රදේශයට නැගෙනහිරින් වු මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාව තුලට ඇතුළුවී අනවසර ධීවර කටයුතුවල නිරතව සිටි ඉන්දීය ට්‍රෝලර් යාත්‍රා 02ක් සමඟ ඉන්දීය ධීවරයින් 23ක් ඊයේ ( 13) දින නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
විදෙස් ධීවරයින් විසින් මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාව උල්ලංඝනය කරමින් සිදු කරන ධීවර කටයුතු හේතුවෙන් දේශීය ධීවර ප්‍රජාවට සිදු වන බලපෑම සැළකිල්ලට ගනිමින් සහ මෙරට මත්ස්‍ය සම්පත රැක ගැනීමේ අරමුණින්, විදේශිය ධීවර යාත්‍රා මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාව තුළ සිදු කරන නීති විරෝධී හා අනවසර ධීවර කටයුතු මැඩ පැවැත්වීම සඳහා නාවික හමුදාව නිරන්තර මුර සංචාර සහ මෙහෙයුම් සිදු කරනු ලබයි.
මෙහිදී අත් අඩංගුවට ගන්නා ලද එම ධීවර යාත්‍රාවන් තුල නීතී විරෝධී bottom trawling ධීවර ආම්පන්න සමඟ එම පන්න ක්‍රමය භාවිතා කරමින් නීති විරෝධී ලෙස අල්ලන ලද මත්ස්‍යයින් ප්‍රමාණයක් ද නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගන්නා ලදී.
කොවිඩ් 19 ව්‍යාප්තිය වැළැක්වීම සඳහා ලබාදී ඇති සෞඛ්‍ය උපදෙස් හා ක්‍රමවේද අනුගමනය කරමින් සිදු කළ මෙම විශේෂ මෙහෙයුම මගින් නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගත් ඉන්දීය ට්‍රෝලර් යාත්‍රාවන් සහ එහි සිටි ධීවරයින් ඉදිරි නීතිමය කටයුතු සිදු කිරීම සඳහා අදාල අංශ වෙත යොමු කරන තෙක් නාවික හමුදා ආරක්‍ෂාව යටතේ රඳවා තබා ඇත.
තවද, නාවික හමුදාව විසින් අවසන්වරට පසුගිය 2021 මාර්තු මස 24 වන දින මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාවේ අනවසර ධීවර කර්මාන්තයේ යෙදුණු ඉන්දීය ධීවර යාත්‍රා 05ක් සමඟ ඉන්දීය ජාතිකයින් 54 දෙනෙකු අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීමෙන් පසු, පැවති වසංගතතත්වය හමුවේ එවැනි විදෙස් ධීවර යාත්‍රා අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීම් සීමා කළද, එවැනි ධීවර යාත්‍රා මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාවෙන් ඔබ්බට පිටත්කර හැරීම අඛණ්ඩව සිදු කෙරිණි.
ඒ අනුව, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවට අයත් මුහුදු සීමාව තුළට විදෙස් ධීවරයින් ඇතුළුවී සිදුකරනු ලබන අනවසර ධීවර කටයුතු සහ නීති විරෝධී ක්‍රියා මැඩපවත්වා මෙරට මත්ස්‍ය සම්පත මෙන්ම දේශීය ධීවරයන්ගේ ජීවනෝපාය රැකදීම වෙනුවෙන් නාවික හමුදාව පවත්නා සෞඛ්‍ය මාර්ගෝපදේශයන්ට අනුකූලව ඉදිරියට මෙවැනි මෙහෙයුම් අඛණ්ඩව සිදුකරනු ලබයි.
Navy seizes 02 Indian fishing vessels whilst poaching in Sri Lankan waters
A special operation conducted by the Navy in seas east of Point Pedro and Vettilaikeni on 13th October 2021 led to seizure of 02 Indian fishing vessels poaching in Sri Lankan waters, with 23 Indian fishers aboard.
Taking into account the impact of foreign fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters on the local fishing community and the sustainability of fishery resources of Sri Lanka, the Navy is conducting regular patrols as well as operations to curb illegal fishing activities in island waters.
In this special operation, Fast Attack Craft of the 04th Fast Attack Craft Flotilla (4 FAF) and Inshore Patrol Craft attached to the Northern Naval Command took hold of 02 Indian fishing vessels along with 23 Indian fishers aboard, for poaching in Sri Lankan waters east of Point Pedro and Vettilaikeni on 13th October.
The operation also led to the seizure of fishing gear from those vessels, used for the illegal fishing practice known as ‘bottom trawling’, and a stock of fish caught by the same fishing method.
The operation was conducted adhering to COVID-19 protocols to prevent possible transmission of the pandemic. Meanwhile, the 02 fishing vessels and 23 Indian fishers held in this operation have been detained in naval custody until they are handed over to relevant authorities for onward legal action.
Last time, the Navy seized 05 fishing vessels and 54 Indian nationals for poaching in Sri Lankan waters on 24th March 2021. However with the onset of COVID-19 pandemic, the Navy limited seizure of foreign fishing vessels and continued to repatriate them to their home waters.
Further, Sri Lanka Navy will continue to carry out regular patrols in Sri Lankan waters adhering to COVID-19 protocols, to prevent illegal fishing practices and other illegal acts by foreign fishermen, with a view to protect the fishery resources claimed by Sri Lanka and secure the livelihood of local fishermen.
