කැස්බෑ මස් තොගයක් සමඟ සැකකරුවන් 02 ක් සිලාවතුරේදී නාවික හමුදා භාරයට
මන්නාරම සිලාවතුර කායක්කුලි ප්‍රදේශයේ සිදුකල විශේෂ සෝදිසි මෙහෙයුමකදී කැස්බෑ මස් තොගයක් සමඟ පුද්ගලයන් දෙදෙනෙකු (02) පසුගිය 20 වනදා නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
වෙරළ කලාපය ඔස්සේ සිදුවන නීති විරෝධී කටයුතු මැඩපැවැත්වීම සඳහා දිවයින වටා වෙරළ කලාපය ආවරණය වන පරිදි ස්ථාපනය කරන ලද වෙරළ නිරීක්ෂණ මධ්‍යස්ථාන මඟින්, වෙරළ තීරය ඔස්සේ සිදුවන නීති විරෝධී කටයුතු පිළිබඳ නිරන්තර අවධානයෙන් පසුවෙයි.
නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගත් සැකකරුවන් වයස අවුරුදු 28 ක් සහ 51 ක් වන කායක්කුලි ප්‍රදේශයේ පදිංචිකරුවන් බව හඳුනාගන්නා ලද අතර, එම සැකකරුවන්, කැස්බෑ මස් තොගය සහ ඩිංගි යාත්‍රාව ඉදිරි විමර්ශන කටයුතු සඳහා මඩු වනජීවි දෙපාර්තමේන්තු කාර්යාලය වෙත භාර දීමට කටයුතු කරන ලදී.
එමෙන්ම, වඳවි යන සත්ව විශේෂයක් වන මෙම කැස්බෑවන් ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීම සඳහා ශ්රී ලංකා නාවික හමුදාව කැස්බෑ සංරක්ෂණ ව්‍යාපෘතියක් ක්‍රියාවට නංවා ඇති අතර, එම ව්‍යාපෘතිය යටතේ සංරක්ෂණය කරනු ලබන කැස්බෑ බිත්තර මඟින් බිහිවන පැටවුන් ආරක්ෂිතව සාගරයට මුදා හැරීම මඟින් මෙන්ම, මෙවැනි මෙහෙයුම් මඟින්ද සාගරික ජෛව පරිසර පද්ධතිය සුරැකීම සඳහා නාවික හමුදාව සුවිශේෂී දායකත්වයක් දක්වනු ලබයි.
Navy apprehends 02 suspects with sea turtle flesh in Silavathurai
The Navy apprehended 02 suspects with sea turtle flesh, during a search operation conducted in Kayakkuli of Silavathurai, Mannar on 20th August 2022.
Sri Lanka Navy’s Coastal Observation Points established in beach areas around the island keep a watchful eye on illegal activities taking place in those areas, with a view to preventing them for the protection of marine resources. As an extension of these efforts, the Coastal Observation Point Kayakkuli of SLNS Therapuththa in the Northwestern Naval Command inspected a suspicious dinghy at Kayakkuli beach and recovered about 14kg of sea turtle flesh from the dinghy. The Navy also held 02 suspects in connection to the incident and the dinghy from which turtle flesh was found.
The 02 suspects, aged 28 and 51, were identified as residents of Kayakkuli area. The suspects along with turtle flesh and the dinghy were handed over to the Office of the Department of Wild life conservation, Madhu for onward investigation.
In order to protect sea turtles, which are an endangered animal species, the Sri Lanka Navy has launched a turtle conservation project aiming to release turtle hatchlings born from eggs preserved under this project. Through such initiatives as well as constant operations, the Navy is committed to protect the marine ecosystem.
