මඩකලපුව කළුවන්කේනි වෙරළ ප්‍රදේශයේ ඊයේ (10) වන දින රාත්‍රියේ සිදුකළ විශේෂ සෝදිසි මෙහෙයුම් මඟින්, නීති විරෝධී ලෙස මුහුදු මාර්ග ඔස්සේ මෙරටින් විදෙස් රටකට සංක්‍රමණය වීමට උත්සහ කළ බවට සැකකෙරෙන පුද්ගලයන් 78 දෙනෙකු නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.

එම බහුදින ධීවර යාත්‍රාවේ සිටි නීති විරෝධී ලෙස මුහුදු මාර්ග ඔස්සේ මෙරටින් විදෙස් රටකට සංක්‍රමණය වීමට උත්සාහ කල බවට සැකකෙරෙන ජාවාරමට සම්බන්ධ පුද්ගලයන් හය දෙනෙකු (06) ඇතුළුව පිරිමි පුද්ගලයන් 43 ක්, කාත්තාවන් 07 ක්, ළමුන් 11 ක් සමඟ පුද්ගලයන් 61 දෙනෙකු එම බහුදින ධීවර යාත්‍රාව සමඟ නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.

ඒ අනුව, නාවික හමුදාව භාරයට ගත් එම පිරිසෙන් 21 දෙනෙකු අද (11) උදෑසන නාවික හමුදා වේග ප්‍රහාරක යාත්‍රාවක් මඟින් ත්‍රිකුණාමලය වරාය වෙත රැගෙන ආ අතර, අනෙක් පුද්ගලයින් 40 දෙනා සමග බහුදින ධීවර යාත්‍රාව මේ වන විට ත්‍රිකුණාමලය වරාය වෙත රැගෙන එමින් පවතී. තවද, නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගත් මෙම පිරිස ඉදිරි නීතිමය කටයුතු සඳහා ත්‍රීකුණාමලය වරාය පොලිසිය වෙත භාරදීමට නියමිතව ඇත.

තවද, ජාවාරම්කරුවන් විසින් මුදල් ඉපයීමේ පරමාර්ථයෙන් අනාරක්‍ෂිත යාත්‍රා යොදාගනිමින් සංවිධානය කරනු ලබන මෙවැනි මිනිස් ජාවාරම් වලට හසුවී නීති විරෝධී ලෙස මෙරටින් සංක්‍රමණය වීමට උත්සහ කර ජීවිත අවදානමට පත්වීමෙන් සහ නීතිය ඉදිරියේ වරදකරුවෙකු වීමෙන් වළකින ලෙස නාවික හමුදාව මහජනතාව වෙත අවධාරණය කරනු ලබයි.

 

 

Navy apprehends 78 individuals attempting to illegally migrate from the island

 

Sri Lanka Navy apprehend 78 individuals, suspected to be on illegal migration attempts to a foreign country via sea, during separate search operations carried out seas off Batticaloa and in Kaluwankeni, Batticaloa on the night of 10th July 2022.

 

Accordingly, the Fast Attack Craft P 491 of the 04th Fast Attack Flotilla in the Eastern Naval Command intercepted and searched a suspicious local multiday fishing trawler, during a search operation in seas off Batticaloa on the night of 10th July 2022. In this search, the Navy apprehended 61 individuals who were suspected to be on an illegal migration attempt to a foreign country via sea. Among the apprehended individuals were; 43 males including 06 individuals in connection to this racket, 07 females and 11 children. The Navy also held the local multiday fishing trawler used for this illegal sea voyage.

Twenty one (21) of those people held by the Navy off Batticaloa were brought to Trincomalee Harbour by an SLN Fast Attack Craft this morning (11th July). Meanwhile, the other 40 persons along with the fishing trawler are currently being brought to Trincomalee Harbour as well. They will be handed over to the Trincomalee Harbour Police for onward legal action.

Meanwhile, SLNS Kashyapa in the Eastern Naval Command and Kalawanchikudi STF mounted another search operation in the beach area of Kaluwankeni, Batticaloa in the dark hours of 10 July. The coordinated operation led to the apprehension of 17 individuals who were suspected to be remaining at the beach with the intention of illegally migrating to a foreign country by the aforementioned fishing trawler. There were 16 males and 01 female who are from 22 to 50 years of age, in the group of apprehendees. The raiding party also seized a van during this operation.

The individuals held in Kaluwankeni were identified as residents of Jaffna, Batticaloa, Vavuniya, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu and Kurunegala. The suspects along with the van were handed over to the Eravur Police for onward legal action.

It is observed that human smugglers organize this kind of rackets using unsafe vessels for the purpose of making fast money. Against such backdrop, the Navy urges the public to refrain from risking their lives by engaging in perilous sea voyages and be victims before the law
