ගේට්ස් පදනම සහ අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍ය සුසිල් අතර හමුවක්
අධ්‍යාපන පරිවර්තන සමුළුවට සහභාගී වීම සඳහා නිල සංචාරයක නිරතවී සිටින අධ්‍යාපන අමාත්‍ය ආචාර්ය සුසිල් ප්‍රේමජයන්ත මහතා, ඒ අතරතුර ගේට්ස් පදනම සමඟ සාකච්ඡාවක නිරත විය.
සංවර්ධනය වෙමින් පවතින රටවල අධ්‍යාපන ක්ෂේත්රයේ සංවර්ධනය සඳහා ගේට්ස් පදනම විසින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ලබන ගෝලීය සංවර්ධන වැඩපිළිවෙල පිළිබඳ සිය ස්තූතිය පල කළ අමාත්‍යවරයා, ශ්රී ලංකාවේ රාජ්‍ය පාසල්වල අධ්‍යාපනික කටයුතු සඳහා නවීන තාක්ෂණය උපයෝගී කරගැනීමට දායකවන ලෙස ගේට්ස් පදනමට ආරාධනා කරන ලදී.
පළමු වසරේ සිට විශ්ව විද්‍යාල අධ්‍යාපනය දක්වා නොමිලයේ අධ්‍යාපනය ලබා දෙන ප්රතිපත්තියක් ක්‍රියාත්මක වන ශ්රී ලංකාවේ හඳුනාගත් රජයේ පාසල්වල තාක්ෂණික ධාරිතාවය ඉහළ නැංවීම සඳහා කළු ලෑලි වෙනුවට සුහුරු පුවරු ස්ථාපිත කිරීම සඳහා මෙලෙස ගේට්ස් පදනමේ සහයෝගය ඉල්ලා සිටින බව අමාත්‍යවරයා ප්‍රකාශ කරන ලදී.
වර්තමානයේ ශ්රී ලංකාවේ මතුව ඇති ආර්ථික අර්බුදයට තිරසර විසඳුම පවතින්නේ ද අධ්‍යාපනය මත බැවින්, අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම සිදු කළ යුතුව පවතින මෙම ආයෝජනය සඳහා පවත්නා ආර්ථික තත්ත්වය හමුවේ අරමුදල් සපයාගැනීමේදී අපහසු තත්ත්වයක් මතුව ඇති බවද මෙහිදී ප්‍රකාශ විය. වර්තමානයේ රජයේ අධ්‍යාපන ක්ෂේත්‍රය පවත්වාගෙන යෑම සඳහා අත්‍යාවශ්‍යම වියදම් සඳහා පමණක් රාජ්‍ය අරමුදල් යොදවාගැනීම සිදු කරනු ලබන බවද මෙහිදී අමාත්‍යවරයා විසින් පැහැදිලි කරන ලදී.
සුහුරු තාක්ෂණය භාවිතාවෙන් ජාතික හා ජාත්‍යන්තර අධ්‍යාපනික පද්ධතිවලට සම්බන්ධවීමට සිසු සිසුවියන් වෙත මෙමගින් ඉඩහසර විවෘත වීම ගේට්ස් පදනමේ මූලික අරමුණු සපුරාගැනීමට ද දායක වන බව මෙම සාකච්ඡාවේදී අමාත්‍යවරයා ප්‍රකාශ කළේය. මෙම අවස්ථාවට ගේට්ස් පදනම නියෝජනය කරමින් උප සභාපති (අධ්‍යාපන), රික් හර්මන් මහතා සහ අධ්යක්ෂ (අධ්‍යාපන – ආසියා පැසිෆික් කලාපය) වින්සන්ට් ක්වා මහතා ඇතුළු නිලධාරීන් පිරිසක් සහභාගී විය.
Education Minister Dr. Susil Premajayantha, who is on an official visit in the USA held a discussion with the representatives of the Gates Foundation on the sidelines of Transforming Education Summit. The minister while expressing his gratitude for the global development programme implemented by the Gates Foundation to develop the education sector in developing countries invited the Foundation to contribute equipping academic activities in public schools in Sri Lanka with modern technology.
The Minister, while highlighting that Sri Lanka is having a free education policy from the Grade 1to university level, sought the support of the Gates Foundation to increase technical capacity of selected public schools in the country by replacing the traditional blackboards with smart boards.
While stressing that investing in education is vital as the sustainable solution to the economic crisis also lies on education, the Minister also explained that Sri Lanka is currently facing difficulties in securing funds to provide for this necessity due to prevailing economic situation. The Minister insisted that currently, the government is utilizing funds only to maintain absolutely essential expenses to maintain the public education sector in Sri Lanka.
The Minister also opined that students will be able to get the exposure to national and international education systems by using smart technology, if Gates Foundation would join hands in investing in Sri Lanka’s education and thus, enabling the Foundation to achieve its basic objectives. Mr. Rick Harman, Vice President (Education), Mr. Vincent Kwa, Director (Education – Asia Pacific Region) and several other key officials represented the Gates Foundation at this discussion.
