වික්ටෝරියා ජලාශය අවට සිදු වෙන භූ කම්පන පරීක්ෂාවට නව අධිසංඛ්‍යාත භූකම්පනමාන 10ක් සවි කෙරේ
පසුගිය වසරේ සිට මේ දක්වා වරින්වර වික්ටෝරියා ජලාශය වේල්ල හා ඒ අවටින් වාර්තා වන සුළු භූ කම්පන තත්ත්වයන් සම්බන්ධව පුළුල් අධ්‍යයනයක් සිදු කිරීමට භූ විද්‍යා සමීක්ෂණ හා පතල් කාර්යාංශය විසින් ආරම්භ කර ඇති බව පරිසර අමාත්‍යංශය පවසයි.
ඒ අනුව ජර්මන් රජය මගින් ලබා දෙන ලද අධි සංඛ්‍යාත භූ කම්පනමාන 10ක් වික්ටෝරියා ජලාශයේ වේල්ල හා ඒ අවට ස්ථාන 10ක ස්ථාපනය කර ඇතැයි භූ විද්‍යා සමීක්ෂණ හා පතල් කාර්යාංශය ඊයේ (30) ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.
මහනුවර දිගන, තෙල්දෙනිය, කුණ්ඩසාලේ ඇතුළු ප්‍රදේශ ගණනාවකින් පසුගිය වසරේ සිට අවස්ථා කිහිපයක දී රිච්ටර් මාපක අංක 02ට ආසන්න සුළු භූ කම්පන තත්ත්වයන් ගණනාවක් වාර්තා විය. මෙම කාරණය සැළකිල්ලට ගනිමින් පරිසර අමාත්‍ය මහින්ද අමරවීර මහතා විසින් ඒ පිළීබඳ විද්‍යාත්මක වාර්තාවක් ලබා දෙන ලෙස ඉල්ලා විද්වත් කමිටුවක් පත් කරනු ලැබීය. එම කමිටු වාර්තාව විසින් පෙන්වා දී තිබුනේ මෙම භූ කම්පන තත්ත්වවලින් වික්ටෝරියා ජලාශයේ වේල්ලට බලපෑමක් නැතත් මේ පිලිබඳ පුළුල් අධ්‍යයනයක් සිදු කළ යුතු බවයි.
එමනිසා වහාම එම ප්‍රදේශයේ අධි සංඛ්‍යාත භූ කම්පනමාන 10ක් වත් සවි කර මාස 06ක භු කම්පන දත්ත ලබා ගත යුතු බව නිර්දේශ කර තිබිනි.මෙම භූ කම්පනමාන 10 ස්ථාපිත කරන ලද්දේ එම නිර්දේශය අනුව යැයි අමාත්‍ය මහින්ද අමරවීර මහතා පැවසීය.
මෙම භූකම්පනමාන වල ක්‍රියාකාරිත්වය සම්බන්ධයෙන් භූ විද්‍යා සමීක්ෂණ හා පතල් කාර්යාංශයේ නිලධාරිහු කරුණු පැහැදිළි කළහ. ඔවුන් කියා සිටියේ දැනට ස්ථාවර භූ කම්පන මාන 04ක් පල්ලෙකැළේ, හක්මන, බුද්ධංගල හා මහකනදරාව යන ස්ථානවල පිහිටා තිබුන ද ඒවායින් සුළු භූ කම්පන තත්ත්ව සම්බන්ධයෙන් දත්ත ලබා ගැනීම අසීරු බවයි. එමෙන්ම මෙම නව අධිසංඛ්‍යාත භු කම්පනමානවලින් පොළව අභ්‍යන්තරයේ ඇති වන ඉතා සුළු කම්පන තත්ත්ව පවා හඳුනා ගැනීමට හැකි බව ද ඔවුහු කීහ.
භූ කම්පන සම්බන්ධව විද්වත් කමිටුව විසින් නිර්දේශ කර තිබෙන කරුණු සියල්ලම ක්‍රියාත්මක කරන බව ප්‍රකාශ කළ අමාත්‍යවරයා ඉදිරියේ දී විශාල භූමිකම්පාවක් ඇති වුවහොත් ඊට පෙර සූදානමක් වශයෙන් මෙන්ම මහජන ජීවිත හා දේපොළ ආරක්ෂා කර ගැනීම උදෙසා මෙම පර්යේෂණ සිදු කෙරෙන බව ද අවධාරණය කළේය.
මෙම අවස්ථාවට පරිසර අමාත්‍යාංශයේ ලේකම් විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය අනිල් ජාසිංහ, භූ විද්‍යා සමීක්ෂණ හා පතල් කැණීම් කාර්යාංශයේ අධ්යක්ෂ ජනරාල් සජ්ජන ද සිල්වා මහතා ඇතුලු පිරිසක් සහභාගි වූහ.
10 new high frequency seismometers to be installed for seismic testing around Victoria Reservoir
The Ministry of Environment says that the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau has commenced an extensive study of the Victoria Reservoir Dam and minor seismic conditions reported from time to time since last year.
According to the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau, 10 high frequency seismometers provided by the German government have been installed at 10 places in and around the Victoria Reservoir.
A number of small earthquakes measuring about 02 on the Richter scale have been reported on several occasions since last year in Kandy, Digana, Teldeniya and Kundasale. Taking this into consideration, the Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera appointed an expert committee to submit a scientific report on the matter. The committee report said that although the quake did not affect the Victoria Reservoir, a comprehensive study was needed.
Therefore, it was recommended that at least 10 high frequency seismometers be installed in the area immediately and six months of seismic data be obtained. These 10 seismometers were installed in accordance with that recommendation, said Minister Mahinda Amaraweera.
Officials from the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau explained the operation of these seismometers. They said that although there are currently four permanent seismometers located at Pallekele, Hakmana, Buddhangala and Mahakanadarawa, it is difficult to obtain data on minor seismic conditions from them. They also said that these new high frequency seismometers can detect even the smallest earthquakes in the interior of the earth.
The Minister said that all the recommendations made by the expert committee on earthquakes will be implemented and stressed that this research is being carried out in preparation for any major earthquake in the future as well as for the protection of public life and property.
Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Environment and Dr. Sajjana de Silva, Director General of the Geological Survey and Mining Bureau were also present at the occasion.
