මන්නාරම, උප්පුකුලම් ප්‍රදේශයේ ඊයේ (27) දින ශ්‍රී ලංකා නාවික හමුදාව, ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොලිසිය හා එක්ව සිදුකළ විශේෂ සෝදිසි මෙහෙයුමකදී, නිවසක නීති විරෝධී ලෙස ගබඩා කර තිබූ තහනම් ධීවර දැල් (Monofilament Nets) කිලෝග්‍රෑම් 1418 ප්‍රමාණයක් සමඟ සැකකරුවෙකු අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන තිබේ.

ධීවර ප්‍රජාවගෙන් ඉතා සීමිත පිරිසක් විසින් තහනම් දැල් භාවිතයෙන් සිදු කරනු ලබන නීති විරෝධී ධීවර කර්මාන්තය මැඩපැවැත්වීම සඳහා නාවික හමුදාව නිරන්තර මෙහෙයුම් සිදු කරනු ලබයි.

තවද, මෙම තහනම් ධීවර දැල් තොගය, නීති වි‍රෝධී මත්ස්‍ය කර්මාන්තය සඳහා අලෙවි කිරීමට මෙලෙස නීති විරෝධී ලෙස ගබඩා කර තබන්නට ඇතැයි විශ්වාස කෙරේ.

මෙම මෙහෙයුම මඟින් අත්අඩංගුවට ගත් සැකකරු වයස අවුරුදු 25ක් වන මන්නාරම, ඉරුක්කුලම්පිඩ්ඩි ප්‍රදේශයේ පදිංචිකරුවෙක් බවට හඳුනාගන්නා ලද අතර, අදාල සැකකරු සහ තහනම් ධීවර දැල් තොගය ඉදිරි විමර්ශණ කටයුතු සඳහා මන්නාරම පොලීසිය වෙත භාරදීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.

Suspect nabbed with 1418kg of unauthorized fishing nets in Mannar

A special operation conducted by the Navy in coordination with Police in Uppukulam, Mannar on 27th March 2022, led to the apprehension of 1418kg of unauthorized (Monofilament) fishing nets stashed in a house. Meanwhile, the raiding party also held a suspect involved in this illegal act, during this operation.

The Navy is often conducting operations to curb illegal fishing practices carried out by a handful of people, using unauthorized fishing nets. In a similar operation, SLNS Gajaba in the North Central Naval Command with Mannar Police found 1418kg of Monofilament Nets, hidden in a house in Uppukulam area. In addition, the operation also made way to apprehend a suspect in connection to the incident.

It is believed that these unauthorized fishing nets may have been stashed away to be sold to people who used them for illegal fishing practices.

The suspect held in this operation was a 25-year-old resident of Irukkulampiddi, Mannar. The accused together with unauthorized fishing nets was handed over to the Mannar Police for onward investigation.
