ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතා වැඩසටහනක් සම්පාදනය කරනවා – අගමැති
ආහාර හිඟයක් ඇතිවීමේ තර්ජනය හමුවේ කෘෂිකර්ම දෙපාර්තමේන්තු නිලධාරීන් එක්ව ආහාර සුරක්ෂිතතා වැඩසටහනක් සම්පාදනය කරමින් සිටින බව අග්රාමාත්ය රනිල් වික්‍රමසිංහ මහතා පවසයි.
අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරයා මේ බව පැවසුවේ රටේ වත්මන් ආහාර තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ ආහාර හා කෘෂිකර්ම සංවිධානයේ(FAO) මෙරට නියෝජිත විම්ලේන්ද්‍ර ශරන් මහතා සහ එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ සංවර්ධන වැඩසටහනේ(UNDP) නියෝජ්‍ය නියෝජිත මාලින් හර්විග් සමඟ පැවැති සාකච්ඡාවකදීය. එම වැඩසටහන ලබන මාසයේ එළිදැක්වීමට නියමිත අතර UNDP සහාය සඳහා එහිදී ආරධනා කර සිටියා.
කෘෂිකාර්මික ක්ෂේත්‍රය දැනට මුහුණ දී සිටින ප්‍රධානතම ප්‍රශ්නය පොහොර සහ ඉන්ධන හිඟය බව අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරයා පැවසිය.
ඉදිරියේදී විය හැකි ආහාර හිඟයක් මඟහරවා ගැනීම සඳහා තමන් විසින් ආරම්භ කරන ලද නාගරික කෘෂිකර්ම වැඩසටහන පිළිබඳව ද අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරයා විස්තර කළේය.
මේ අතර පොහොර හිඟය මගහරවා ගැනීමට ගොවි ප්‍රජාවට උපකාර වන නව්‍ය ගොවි ආධාර වැඩසටහනක් සම්පාදනය කරමින් සිටින බව UNDP පැහැදිලි කර සිටයා.
නාගරික කෘෂිකාර්මික වැඩසටහන ආධාර කිරීමට පරිත්‍යාගශීලීන් ඉදිරිපත් වී ඇති බවත්, සාර්ථක ලෙස ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමකදී වැඩි මූල්ය ආධාර ලබා දෙනු ඇතැයි බලාපොරොත්තු වන බවත් එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ ආහාර හා කෘෂිකර්ම සංවිධානයේ(FAO) මෙරට නියෝජිත විම්ලේන්ද්‍ර ශරන් මහතා පැහැදිලි කළේය.
ශ්රී ලංකාව තුළ ක්‍රියාත්මක කළ හැකි ආහාර අර්බුදයට ප්‍රතිචාර දැක්වීම සැලැස්මක් කෙටුම්පත් කරමින් සිටින බව විම්ලේන්ද්‍ර ශරන් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.
ගොවීන් මුහුණ දී සිටින පොහොර ඉන්ධන ඇතුළු මුලික අවස්ථාවවල හිඟය පියවීමට කඩිනම් ක්‍රියාමාර්ගයක් ගතහොත් දැනට පවතින අහාර හිඟය මාස 5-6ක් ඇතුළත පාලනය කල හැකි බව අග්‍රාමාත්‍යවරයා පැහැදිලි කළේය.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe held discussions, today (3), with the Country Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organisation, Vimlendra Sharan, and United Nations Development Program Deputy Country Representative, Malin Herwig, regarding the current food situation in the country.
The Prime Minister explained that in view of the threat of a food shortage, a food security program was being compiled by the agriculture department officials. This program is due to be unveiled next month, with the UNDP expressing their support for the initiative.
He stated that the biggest issue currently facing the agriculture sector is the fertiliser and fuel shortage. The Prime Minister also elaborated on the urban agriculture initiative that he had established to try and overcome a potential food shortage.
The UNDP explained that they were compiling an innovative farming assistance program which would help the farming community overcome the fertiliser shortage.
The FAO also explained that donors had stepped forward to assist the country in the urban agriculture program, and was hopeful that a successful implementation would see more financial support provided.
The FAO also stated they were drafting a food crisis response plan that can be enacted in Sri Lanka.
The Prime Minister explained that within 5-6 months the current agriculture shortages could be salvaged if swift action was taken to address the shortages faced by the farmers.
