මන්නාරම් මුහුදේ අනවසරෙන් ධිවර කටයුතු කල ඉන්දීය ටෝලර් යාත්‍රාවක් නාවික හමුදා භාරයට
මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාව තුළට ඇතුළු වී අනවසර ධීවර කටයුතුවල නිරතව සිටි ඉන්දීය ටෝලර් යාත්‍රාවක් සමඟ ඉන්දීය ධීවරයින් 08 දෙනෙකු, ඊයේ (26) නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
විදේශීය ධීවරයින් මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාව උල්ලංඝනය කරමින් සිදු කරන නිතීවිරෝධී ධීවර කටයුතු හේතුවෙන් දේශීය ධීවර ප්‍රජාවට සිදු වන බලපෑම මෙන්ම මෙරට සාගරික පරිසරයේ ජෛව විවිධත්වයට එල්ලවන තර්ජන මැඩපැවැත්වීමේ අරමුණින්, විදේශීය ධීවර යාත්රා මෙරට මුහුදු සීමාව තුළ සිදු කරන නීති විරෝධී හා අනවසර ධීවර කටයුතු මැඩ පැවැත්වීම සඳහා නාවික හමුදාව අඛණ්ඩ මුර සංචාර සහ මෙහෙයුම් සිදු කරනු ලබයි.
ඒ අනුව, උතුරු මැද නාවික විධානයට අනුයුක්ත හතරවන වේග ප්‍රහාරක බලඝණයට අයත් වේග ප්‍රහාරක යාත්‍රාවක් විසින් තලෙයි මන්නාරමට උතුරු දෙසින් වූ මුහුදු තීරයේ සිදුකළ මුරසංචාරයකදී, අන්තර්ජාතික මුහුදු සීමාව උල්ලංඝනය කරමින් නීති විරෝධී bottom trawling පන්න ක්රමයට ධීවර කටයුතු සිදු කරමින් සිටි ඉන්දීය ටෝලර් යාත්‍රාවක් සමඟ එම යාත්‍රාවෙහි සිටි ඉන්දීය ජාතික ධීවරයින් 08 දෙනෙකු නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගන්නා ලදී.
පවත්නා සෞඛ්‍ය මාර්ගෝපදේශයන්ට අනුකූලව සිදු කළ මෙම මෙහෙයුම මගින් නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගත් ඉන්දීය ටෝලර් යාත්‍රාව සහ ධීවරයින් ඉදිරි නීතිමය කටයුතු සඳහා අදාල අංශ වෙත යොමු කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය කටයුතු මේ වන විට සිදු කරමින් පවතී.
තවද, ශ්රී ලංකාවට අයත් මුහුදු තීරයේ සුරක්ෂිතභාවය සහ මෙරට මත්ස්ය සම්පත රැකගනිමින් දේශීය ධීවරයන්ගේ ජීවනෝපාය රැකදීම සඳහා නාවික හමුදාව මෙවැනි මෙහෙයුම් අඛණ්ඩව සිදුකරනු ලබන අතර, මෙම ටෝලර් යාත්‍රාවද සමඟ 2022 පෙබරවාරි මස තුලදී පමණක්, ශ්රී ලංකාවට අයත් මුහුදු තීරයට අතුළුව අනවසර ධීවර කටයුතු වල නිරතව සිටි ඉන්දීය ධීවර යාත්රා 09 ක් සමඟ එම යාත්‍රාවන්ගේ සිටි ඉන්දීය ධීවරයන් 59 දෙනෙකු නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.
Navy takes hold of an Indian trawler for poaching in Mannar seas
Sri Lanka Navy took hold of an Indian trawler with 08 Indian fishermen while poaching in Sri Lankan waters. The apprehension was made in seas north of Talaimannar, during a patrol carried out on the night of 26th February 2022.
Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular patrols and operations to curb illegal fishing activities of foreign fishermen in Sri Lankan waters, taking into account the impact of foreign fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters on the local fishing community and threats to the biodiversity of the country’s marine environment.
The apprehension was made during a patrol carried out by a Fast Attack Craft of the 4th Fast Attack Flotilla (4 FAF), attached to the North Central Naval Command in seas north of Talaimannar. Accordingly, the Navy took hold of the Indian trawler with 08 Indian fishermen who were engaging in the illegal fishing method known as ‘bottom trawling’ in island waters, through the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).
The operation was conducted adhering to COVID-19 protocols and arrangements are being made to hand over the Indian poaching vessel and fishermen held in the operation to relevant authorities.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy remains committed to carry out regular operations with a view to safeguarding the security in Sri Lankan waters while protecting the fishery resources of the country and the livelihood of local fishermen. Including this Indian trawler, the Navy took hold of 09 Indian fishing vessels with 59 fishermen poaching in Sri Lankan waters, thus far in the month of February 2022.
