මන්නාරමට දකුණු දෙසින් වූ මුහුදු තීරයේ ඊයේ (16) දින කේරළ ගංජා කිලෝ 197ග්‍රෑම් 60ක පමණ තොගයක් (තෙත බර සහිත), නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගැනීමට කටයුතු කෙරිණි.

මුහුදු මාර්ග ඔස්සේ සිදුකෙරෙන මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය ජාවාරම ඇතුළු විවිධ නීති විරෝධී කටයුතු මැඩපැවැත්වීම සඳහා නාවික හමුදාව දිවයින වටා වූ වෙරළ තීරය ආවරණය වන පරිදි නිරන්තර මුර සංචාර සිදු කරනු ලබයි.

ඒ අනුව, මිහිකත නෞකාව මඟින් මන්නාරමට දකුණු දෙසින් වූ මුහුදු තීරයේ මුර සංචාරයේ නිරතව සිටියදී මුහුදේ පාවෙමින් තිබූ සැකකටයුතු උර කිහිපයක් නිරීක්‍ෂණය කර පරීක්‍ෂාවට ලක් කරන ලද අතර, එහිදී ගෝනි උර 02ක පාර්සල් 50 ක් ලෙස අසුරන ලද කේරළ ගංජා කිලෝ 197 ග්‍රෑම් 60ක පමණ තොගයක් (තෙත බර සහිත) නාවික හමුදා භාරයට ගැනීමට සමත් විය.

නාවික හමුදා මුර සංචාර සහ සෝදිසි මෙහෙයුම් හමුවේ ගොඩබිමට රැගෙන ඒමට නොහැකිව ජාවාරම් කරුවන් විසින් මෙම කේරළ ගංජා තොගය මුහුදට දමා පලා යන්නට ඇතැයි විශ්වාස කරන අතර, නාවික හමුදා භාරයටගත් කේරළ ගංජා තොගයේ දළ වීථි වටිනාකම රුපියල් මිලියන 59කට අධික වෙතැයි විශ්වාස කෙරේ.

මෙලෙස නාවික හමුදා භාරයටගත් කේරළ ගංජා තොගය නාවික හමුදා විනයාරක්‍ෂක අංශයේ අධීක්‍ෂණය යටතේ ගිනි තබා විනාශ කිරීමට නියමිතව ඇත.

Navy takes hold of Kerala cannabis worth over Rs. 59 million in seas south of Mannar

Sri Lanka Navy took hold of Kerala cannabis weighing about 197kg and 60g (wet weight) during a patrol conducted in seas south of Mannar on 16th April 2022.

Sri Lanka Navy has been conducting regular patrols to prevent smuggling of drugs and other forms of illegal activities in island waters. Accordingly, SLNS Mihikatha patrolling in seas south of Mannar recovered this stock of narcotics after retrieving several suspicious packages adrift in the sea area. These 50 packages in 02 sacks, recovered during the patrol, contained about 197kg and 60g (wet weight) of Kerala cannabis.

It is believed that the smugglers had jettisoned the stock of Kerala cannabis into the sea and fled, being unable to bring it ashore as a result of naval presence. Meanwhile, the gross street value of the seized Kerala cannabis is believed to be over Rs. 59 million.

The stock of Kerala cannabis held in this patrol will be set on fire and destroyed under the supervision of Naval Provost branch.
